Ralph Holmes


Landscape painter, illustrator. Born in La Grange, Illinois and attended Northwestern University (1895-98) and the Art Institue Carnegie (1898-1902). After further art study in Paris, he joined the faculty at the AIC (1903-12) followed by five years at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. In 1918 he moved to Southern California and was active as a muralist in Atascadero and an instructor at Otis Art Institute (1923-48). Holmes died in San Luis Obisbo, California on Feb. 6, 1963. His work includes views of Yosemite and Bryce Canyon as well as the desert and rolling hills of Southern California.
