beautiful work by this nationally acclaimed

Cardinals
|
|
Korry Bird has
always enjoyed sketching the
wildlife near his home in Springville, Utah. Three cardinals
are delicately balanced atop a vessel engaged and
animated amongst the branches. Two more cardinals are
nestled at the base. The textural quality of the
sculpture and elegant patina, with hints of cardinal
red, complete this fine work of art.

John Cosby

Light on Descanso, 24 x 36 inches |
A Symphony of Color
The
Redfern Gallery invites you to a one-man
show and artist reception on
Saturday, March 29th at 4 p. m. Cosby's
extraordinary recent paintings will fill the
walls of the newly redecorated Redfern
Gallery located at 1540 South Coast Highway,
Laguna Beach, California. John Cosby is the
first new artist to be represented by The
Redfern Gallery in fifteen years and we are
thrilled to present his paintings along with
the gallery’s "new look".
"Cosby
conveys not only how a scene looks but also
how it feels." as stated in the March issue
of Southwest Art Magazine, where John
Cosby is a featured artist. According
to the author, Virginia Campbell, "The
endlessly shifting California light that has
animated the canvases of California's plein-air
painters for a century takes on a
particularly welcoming quality in Cosby's
pictures. They have an intangible
human touch that comes partly from fast,
lovely brush strokes that don't show off,
and partly from the ephemeral moments they
capture. It's the work of an
optimistic realist."
A Symphony of Color
will
showcase over thirty paintings of Laguna
Beach, Catalina Island and the countryside
of California's central coast. A full
color brochure is available.

Edgar Payne
(1883-1947) |
|
Grand Canyon South,
25 x 30 inches |
“Grand
Canyon South” is a rare painting by the
famous artist Edgar Payne. In the thirty one
years that the Redfern Gallery has been
representing Payne’s work, there have been
few paintings of the Grand Canyon and of
those “Grand Canyon South” is his best.
This painting was used as a cover for
Payne’s book “Composition of Outdoor
Painting”.
Payne first
went west in 1917 when the Santa Fe railroad
offered him passage in exchange for
some of the paintings he produced on the
trip. They were to be used as advertising
for the railroad to entice travel to the
Western states. Payne loved the Southwest
and returned there throughout his career.
